NGMC COMPETITION GUIDELINES

RULES

PIECES

  • Any pieces related to hymn, gospel, and praise music style

  • Only one piece required

  • An arrangement will be allowed as long as the original published music is provided to the judges/competition staff on the competition day

  • Piano / Voice will require memorization. For all other instruments, memorization is recommended but not required.

  • Unaccompanied music may be submitted; however, if the piece has a written accompanist part, then an accompanist will be required.

APPLICATION FEES

  • Non-Member Fees:

    • Solo: $50

    • Chamber: $40 (per applicant)

  • Member Fees:

    • Solo: $45

    • Chamber: $35 (per applicant)

  • All chamber fees must be submitted together.

  • All fees are non-refundable.

  • Online payments accepted through Paypal.

CATEGORIES

  • Solo Competition

    • Piano, Strings, Wind/Brass, Voice

  • Chamber Competition*

    • Piano Chamber (one piano/four hands)

    • Any combination of Piano/Strings/Winds/Voice (duo to quartet)

CATEGORY DIVISIONS (by grade)

  • Piano, Strings, Voice: Grades 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12

  • Winds/Brass: Grades 4-6, 7-9, 10-12

  • Piano Chamber – Grades 1-4, 5-8, 9-12

  • Other Chamber (any combination) – Grades 1-4, 5-8, 9-12

AWARDS

  • Gold, Silver, Bronze winners from each Grade Division will be awarded trophies

  • Honorable Mention winners from each Grade Division will be awarded certificates.

  • All Participants will receive certificates

 

SPECIAL AWARDS

  • Best Performer Award winner will receive a plaque commemorating his/her achievement in the National Gospel Music Competition.

  • The National Gospel Music Competition will select one Best Performer of 2019 out of the first prize winners and give out an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall on July 3, 2020, 8:00 pm.

  • The invited Best Performer winner(s) will be responsible for their own accommodation and travel expenses.

WINNERS' CONCERT:

  • Best performers will be invited to perform in the National Gospel Music Competition’s Winners’ Concert on Sunday, September 29th, 2019, 4:30 pm.

  • Performing pieces will be limited to  7 minutes in length, instead of 10 minutes, for Best performers in grades 7-12.

  • No admissions fee. Donations will be accepted (for Charity).

** Completed online applications and paypal payments must be submitted by September 14, 2019. Application fees are non-refundable.
