YMIC INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION GUIDELINES

GENERAL GUIDELINES

• YMIC supports the use of published musical scores.  1 original (no photo copy) score/solo part (with measures numbered) for each piece should be provided for the judges.  Entrants using photocopies or PDFs downloaded from the Internet must complete the Music Release Form verifying that they have permission to use this music.  Failure to do so may result in disqualification.

• Time limits will be strictly enforced. Despite the time limits, each movement or piece must be prepared in its entirety. Judges reserve the right to stop and listen to different sections of the repertoire. A movement will count as one piece out of however many pieces required for competition repertoire (see below for specific requirements in each category). Timing must be included on the application form.

• No changes in the repertoire can be made after the application has been submitted.
No exceptions will be made.

• Application fees are non-refundable.

MEMORIZATION

Memorization is required for solo strings. Memorization is encouraged but not required for all other categories; it is left to the discretion of the contestant and the private teacher.

ACCOMPANIST

It is the responsibility of each string and wind applicant to provide his/her own accompanist; accompanists are required for pieces with piano accompaniment.  Participants MAY NOT be accompanied by their teachers.  If requested, YMIC could provide a list of possible accompanists. Arrangements must be made at the applicant’s own expense.

AWARDS

Awards will be given within each category and division, up to five grand prize winners will be chosen among all competition participants,  and will receive an invitation to perform in the YMIC Competitions Top Winners' Concert at Carnegie Hall.

Awards Ceremony will take place after the Winners' Concert on April 14, 2019.
